1 Getting Started

What is ByteFit?

ByteFit is a complete fitness companion for Android: personalised workout plans, a powerful workout logger, nutrition and meal tracking, habit building, mood and sleep tracking, and progress analytics — all built around your goals, experience level, and the equipment you actually have.

Which devices does ByteFit support?

ByteFit runs on Android phones and tablets with Android 8.0 (Oreo) or newer. An iOS version is planned for the future.

Do I need an account?

Yes. Your account keeps your workout history, nutrition logs, and progress safely backed up to our servers, so you can reinstall the app or switch phones without losing anything. You can sign up with your email or continue with Google.

How does the onboarding work?

When you first sign up, ByteFit asks about your goal, experience, training frequency, preferred training place, and available equipment. From this it builds your personalised training plan and calculates your daily calorie target. You can change any of these later from your Profile.

Does ByteFit work offline?

Yes — ByteFit is built local-first. Logging workouts, meals, habits, and everything else works fully offline; your data is stored on your device and syncs to our servers automatically the next time you're online.

2 Workouts & Training

What can I log in a workout?

Sets, reps, weight, RPE/RIR, and rest — with full support for advanced set types: warmups, supersets, drop sets, giant sets, rest-pause, circuits, pyramid sets, and sets to failure. A rest timer with notifications runs alongside your session, and you can log directly from the notification without opening the app.

Where do my workout plans come from?

ByteFit includes a library of professionally structured plans for different goals, splits, and experience levels — and Premium members can generate AI-personalised plans built around their exact profile. Every exercise comes with instructions and a visual muscle map showing what it targets.

Can I create my own workouts?

Yes — you can build custom workouts from the full exercise library and save them for reuse. In the current version, saved custom workouts are stored on your device only; they don't yet sync to your account, so they won't survive a logout or reinstall. Cloud sync for custom workouts is planned.

What are personal records and streaks?

ByteFit automatically detects new personal records as you log heavier lifts, tracks your workout streaks, and awards achievements as you hit milestones. You can also share a workout summary card to social media when you finish a session.

What is the gym finder?

ByteFit includes a database of over 400,000 gyms worldwide. Pick your gym (or train at home) and set the equipment you have — your plans and exercise suggestions adapt to what's actually available to you.

3 Nutrition Tracking

How does food logging work?

Search a database of nearly one million foods, or scan a product's barcode with your camera to log it instantly. ByteFit tracks calories and macros (protein, carbs, fat) against the daily targets calculated from your goal.

How is my calorie target calculated?

During onboarding ByteFit estimates your daily energy needs (TDEE) from your body stats, activity level, and goal, then sets calorie and macro targets accordingly. Updating your stats or goal recalculates your targets.

Can I track water and fasting too?

Yes — hydration tracking with reminders and an intermittent-fasting timer are both built in, alongside habit tracking, mood check-ins, and sleep logging.

4 Premium & Billing

What's free and what's Premium?

All core logging is free — workouts, personal records, streaks, achievements, habits, mood, sleep, water, and fasting. Premium unlocks the intelligence on top: AI-personalised workout plans, nutrition & meal tracking, meal plans, advanced progress analytics, and detailed recovery insights.

Is there a free trial?

Yes — new accounts receive a free Premium trial, no payment details required. Early adopters get extended trial periods as a thank-you for joining first.

How do I subscribe, and what does it cost?

Subscriptions are handled securely through Google Play, with monthly and annual options. Current prices for your country are always shown in the app before you confirm anything.

How do I cancel or manage my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed entirely by Google Play. Open the Play Store app → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions, select ByteFit, and cancel from there — or use the Manage Subscription screen inside the app, which takes you to the same place. Cancelling keeps Premium active until the end of your paid period.

Do I lose my data if my subscription ends?

No. Your logged history is never deleted when a subscription or trial ends — logging stays free forever. You only lose access to the Premium intelligence features until you resubscribe.

5 Health Connect

What does ByteFit read from Health Connect?

With your permission, ByteFit reads exactly four things: steps, active calories burned, total calories burned, and sleep. These appear on your Home dashboard and feed your daily activity and recovery insights.

Is Health Connect required? Does ByteFit write to it?

Health Connect is entirely optional — every ByteFit feature works without it. Access is read-only: ByteFit never writes to or modifies your Health Connect data, and it's free for all users, no Premium needed.

How do I connect or disconnect it?

Connect from Profile → Health Connect — Android will show a permission sheet listing exactly what ByteFit may read. You can revoke access at any time from the same screen or from the Health Connect app itself, and syncing stops immediately.

6 Your Data & Privacy

Where is my data stored?

On your device (so the app works offline) and on our servers in the European Union (Amsterdam), encrypted in transit and at rest. The full details are in our Privacy Policy.

Do you sell my data or show ads?

No and no. ByteFit has no ads, and we never sell, rent, or share your health data with advertisers or data brokers — under any circumstances. The app is funded by Premium subscriptions, not by your data.

How do I delete my account?

Request deletion at bytefit.app/delete-account. We verify it's really you, then permanently remove your account and all associated data from our systems.

Can I get a copy of my data?

Yes — email privacy@bytefit.app from your account email and we'll provide an export of your personal data.

7 Troubleshooting & Support

My workout didn't sync — is it lost?

No. Workouts are always saved to your device first, then synced in the background. If you were offline or the connection dropped, ByteFit retries automatically the next time you open the app with a connection.

Reminders or notifications aren't showing.

Check that notifications are enabled for ByteFit in Android Settings, and that Battery optimisation isn't restricting the app. Workout, hydration, and meal reminders can each be turned on or off from Profile → Notifications.

I found a bug or have a feature request.

We'd genuinely love to hear it — ByteFit is actively developed and user reports directly shape what gets built next.
